Privacy Policy
Spur · Last updated: 8 October 2026
Spur ("we", "us") is a spontaneous recommendation app that suggests things to do in London based on your
chosen vibe and context. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights over it. If you have any
questions, contact us at support@spurapp.co.uk.
Information we collect
- Location. With your permission, we use your device's location to find and rank places near
you and to estimate travel times. Location is used at the moment you request recommendations.
- Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address and (optionally) a
display name. If you use the app without an account, we assign an anonymous device identifier so the app can
function and apply usage limits.
- Preferences you provide. Your selected vibe, group size, time available, budget, and any
dietary preferences you choose (for example halal or kosher), so we can tailor suggestions.
- Usage and interaction data. Actions such as searches, which suggestions you open, save, or
give feedback on, to operate and improve the recommendations.
- Purchases. If you buy Spur+ or a pass, Apple takes the payment and we never see your card
or billing details. We receive a record of the purchase (which product, when it starts and ends, and a
transaction reference) through our payments provider, RevenueCat, so we can switch it on for your
account.
- Diagnostics. Crash and error reports to help us fix problems.
How we use your information
- To generate and rank recommendations for you.
- To create and manage your account and apply free-usage limits.
- To provide Spur+ and passes you have bought, and to restore them on a new device.
- To send account emails, such as email verification and password resets.
- To understand how the app is used and improve suggestion quality.
- To diagnose crashes and keep the app working.
Legal basis (UK/EU GDPR)
We process your data to provide the service you request (performance of a contract), on the basis of your
consent (for example device location, which you can grant or deny), and for our legitimate interest in improving
and securing the app.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited data with service providers who help us run Spur:
- Google — Firebase (authentication, database, hosting) and Google Places (venue data). Your
location and search context are sent to find nearby venues.
- Ticketmaster and Transport for London — to find live events near you and
estimate journey times; your approximate location is sent for these lookups.
- OpenAI — to help select and describe recommendations. We send the candidate venues and your
search context (vibe, time, area), not your name or account details.
- RevenueCat — manages in-app purchases and subscription status. It receives your Spur
account ID and the purchase records Apple provides, not your name or email address.
- Resend — sends our account emails (verification and password reset). It receives your
email address.
- PostHog (product analytics) and Sentry (crash reporting).
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on servers in the European Union / United Kingdom (our backend and analytics are hosted in
Europe). Some service providers listed above may process data in other regions under appropriate safeguards.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you delete your
account we delete your account record and your Spur profile, and you can no longer sign in.
One thing survives deletion, and we would rather be explicit about it than leave you to find out:
- Aggregated and anonymised data. Usage statistics that no longer identify you and cannot
be linked back to you.
We may also retain information for longer where the law requires it. Diagnostic and analytics records held
by our providers age out on their own retention schedules.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. You can delete your account and its
data from within the app at any time. To make any other request, contact us at
support@spurapp.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information
Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Age
Spur is for adults. You must be 18 or over to use it, as set out in our
Terms of Service. Spur is not directed at children, we do not knowingly collect data
from anyone under 18, and if we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18 we will close it and delete
the data associated with it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will change the "last updated" date above when we do.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Spur App Ltd, a company registered in England and
Wales (company number 17431182, registered office
66 Paul Street, London, England, United Kingdom, EC2A 4NA).
